New Not NOS! Double sided with better fit for brighter lights.

At last this project is up and running. Motozane now offers new taillight circuit boards for the GTV6.

Why would you need this?

You ever had the feeling that huge SUV almost ran into you? It may have because they can't see the feeble rearlight output, especially during the day.

The problems are two-fold. First, the lampholders and contacts don't really provide a good connection a situation, in fact, that worsens with the passage of time. This can be improved by cleaning them and smearing a little dielectric grease around the inside of the holder and the tip of the contact. But, this is not an ideal solution.

The original plating appears to be some sort of nickel. Nickel is not the ideal material in this application. While the holders are ferrous the contact wiper is brass.

Secondly, the PCB contact 'fingers' are prone to failure. As they fail heat is generated at the point of contact with the main plug, which hastens the degradation. Constant 'fiddling' to get a good connection between the plug and the PCB wears the plating on the PCB contact fingers. The underlying copper once exposed then corrodes and it is pretty much downhill from there.

I have seen the PCB's in quite remarkable condition and others can be dire. One on my own GTV6 had been 'repaired' with a piece of copper held on with packing tape. The heat buildup was so intense that the circuit board was burnt.

So I decided to reproduce the taillight circuit boards. These are not exact copies. A serious failing of the original is that the PCB is single sided; the Motozane boards are double sided. This new method provides a far superior connection for the plug contacts with lower resistance and less heat. This results in brighter lights; no bad thing.

You can either buy the circuit boards individually or as a set, remove your hardware and fit it to the new board or you may send your old boards to me and I can restore them to better than new and ship them back.

Pricing for all options;

NOTE: Core charges either in whole or part, are refundable when usable hardware is returned within 45 days. I shall also buy usable lampholders and wiper contacts (as needed) for $3.75 ($4 for double wipers) each with or without the original PCB.

For those of you that choose the complete assemblies or wish to have your existing hardware replated, the parts are striped of the original plating then replated with tin, which is a superior finish providing better contact with the ability to solder the parts to the circuit board. Extra area has been left for this on the board.

The original boards used eyelets to attach the hardware and that is the way Motozane attaches the hardware while it looks better being closer to the original and is a more secure attachment option. However, you could use nuts and bolts (don't forget the Loctite). While not complicated, using the eyelets requires special tools to get a professional look. See the section 'Some Assembly Required' below for assembly suggestions.

Some Assembly Required

The eyelets can be fitted using a hammer or a drill press (drill press is definitely preferred). I used Keystone products sourced from Mouser Electronics as described below.

Cost from Mouser (doubt you'll find them cheaper elsewhere) runs just shy of $50 plus shipping. You will also need a spacer to raise the tool holder to allow clearance after some of the lampholders are fitted. A 3/4" steel spacer that can accommodate the tool holder shaft worked for me. The lampholders also need to fitted in a certain order (ask me how I know).

The tools above are not included with your purchase but I can make a them available upon request when purchased with at least one bare board, for a refundable charge of $50 when they are returned in usable condition within 14 days of receipt.

If you include your hardware I can assemble the PCB's with your hardware for $20 for one board or $35 for both.
